Leta Leo’s career at Taylor Preston is a testament to hard work, dedication, and seizing opportunities. Six years ago, she started in the Lamb Cutting Room, carefully packing and labeling processed cuts for export. With a background in catering, warehousing, and hospitality, she quickly adapted to the fast-paced environment and developed a keen interest in the company’s operations.
As she gained confidence and knowledge of the production flow, Leta’s leadership potential was recognised. When her supervisor moved on, she was chosen to step up as a Night Shift Supervisor in the Beef Boning Room. In this role, she planned shift schedules, managed production, and oversaw the Marrel system—an advanced conveyor system for tracking beef processing.
Determined to keep growing, Leta embraced every opportunity Taylor Preston provided, completing training courses in leadership, management, compliance, and health & safety. After several years on night shift, she transitioned to her current role as Chiller Foreman, overseeing the temperature-controlled storage of fresh carcasses. She now leads a team ensuring smooth product flow from the slaughter boards to the boning rooms and freezers, while maintaining strict compliance standards.
For Leta, Taylor Preston has been more than just a workplace—it’s been a place of growth and opportunity. “The training and support I’ve received have set me up for success,” she says. Her story is proof that at Taylor Preston, hard work is recognised, talent is nurtured, and careers are built.
For nearly a decade, Daniel has been an essential part of Taylor Preston’s stock yards. With a background in agriculture, earthworks, and heavy machinery, he joined as a general yardman, looking for stability after starting a family. His hands-on experience and strong work ethic saw him quickly move into a restrainer role on night shift, then into supervision.
Taylor Preston recognised Daniel’s potential and provided training in animal handling, food safety, leadership, and first aid. He also earned his forklift license and is currently completing a yearlong foreman cadetship to further his career.
Now as the Day Shift Yard Supervisor, Daniel manages stock movements, plans team rotations, and ensures smooth, efficient processing. A key part of his role is maintaining strict compliance standards to keep both staff and livestock safe.
“Taylor Preston has supported my growth with valuable training and leadership development,” he says. “It’s been great to learn how different management styles work and apply that in my role.”
Daniel’s journey proves that with dedication and the right support, there’s always room to grow at Taylor Preston.
Sean Eagles joined Taylor Preston in 2021, starting on the Mutton Slaughter Board as a hock cutter and stunner. But he quickly set his sights on something more challenging. Drawn to the hands-on problem-solving of the engineering team, he took the initiative to gain experience—shadowing engineers one day a week and proving his potential during a probationary period.
Now, Sean is halfway through a four-year Maintenance Engineering Apprenticeship, gaining practical skills while working towards his qualification. Taylor Preston has supported his growth with specialised training in working at heights, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms—essential for maintaining the plant’s complex machinery safely and efficiently.
Currently, Sean’s main responsibility is the beef board, where he troubleshoots and fixes mechanical issues to keep operations running smoothly. He also assists with scheduled maintenance, ensuring equipment stays in top condition.
“Taylor Preston gave me the opportunity to step up and learn a trade,” Sean says. “I’ve gained skills that I can take anywhere, and I’m constantly learning.”
His story is a great example of how Taylor Preston supports ambition—turning curiosity and drive into real career opportunities.
Abe has always been a people person. Before joining Taylor Preston, he worked as a youth representative for a health service, helping connect young people with mental health support while gaining valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership. He also worked at McDonald's, training new crew members and keeping the kitchen running smoothly—experiences that built his confidence in working with others.
When he finished school, Abe joined Taylor Preston in the freezers, quickly proving his ability to lead and problem-solve under pressure. He moved into the chillers as a tallyman and soon took on extra responsibilities, earning his forklift license to step in for his supervisor and becoming a health and safety representative. Recognising his potential, Taylor Preston supported him through first aid training, a Freezer Distribution apprenticeship, and a Foreman Cadetship in leadership as well as providing mentorship.
Now as the Freezer Chilled 2IC, Abe plays a key role in coordinating stock movements, scanning and allocating products for export, and training new team members. His ability to connect with people and mentor others has been instrumental in improving team efficiency.
“Building relationships and working with people has always been important to me,” Abe says. “Taylor Preston has helped me turn those skills into leadership.”
Dominique knows what it takes to lead a team. With a background in management roles at McDonald’s, Farmers, and Jay Jays, she brought strong leadership skills when she joined Taylor Preston in 2021. After five years off raising her youngest child, she was ready for a new challenge—and she found it in the Mutton Offal Department.
Starting on the sorting and packing tables, Dominique quickly learned the ropes. She mastered the Triton packaging system and, before long, stepped up to train for a supervisor role. Taylor Preston supported her with first aid training and fire warden responsibilities, ensuring she was well-equipped to lead.
Now, as the Mutton Offal Supervisor—and Beef Offal Supervisor when running night shift—Dominique oversees production, maintains quality standards, and keeps morale high. She thrives in the positive, family-oriented environment and enjoys mentoring others, helping them grow just as she did.
“I love this role because of the people and the culture we create,” she says. “With the right attitude and a willingness to learn, there’s so much opportunity here.”
That sense of family extends beyond work—her son has even joined the team during school holidays, gaining valuable experience and saving for his first car.
